GUY MANDARD (Mandard Mandard)

Magnify outlines, flatten silhouettes, wrinkle skin, compress heads, up until extracting the past and present quintessence – of an individual. With folds as pictural weapons, the artist desperately tries to decipher the withdrawal of souls under corporal undulation.

Simple folds, complex, linked… cavities, bumps… where is the frontier between interior and exterior, to be and to appear to be, to hide and to emerge ? Characters in the limelight or scenes of life, Mandard’s works allow your imagination to wander.

The chromatic palette sets the rhythm for compositions: a vast spectrum of vivid colors or nuanced tones, subtle playing with shadows, and his repetitive use of greens in quite audacious combinations.
